Where do we go from here?
These are a few of the questions being raised at our weekly meetings. Please come and join the conversation. We meet every Tuesday at 5:15 pm at Northern Light United Church, 400 W. 11th Street. We need your input and energies!
- What do supporters of Juneau People for Peace and Justice think about goals and objective for the Juneau peace community?
- How can we connect with others around the state to augment our work for an end to the occupation and war in Iraq and beyond?
- How can we use the democratic processes to advance our goals?
- What strategies and tactics should we adopt in moving forward?
- How can we be more effective?

First thoughts--I just looked at the "Occupation Project" website. Perhaps the time for civil (nonviolent) disobedience has come. I don't think we could change the minds of Stevens or Young no matter what we did. But I have some hope that we might be able to influence Lisa Murkowski. Does she have a Juneau office (in the Fed. bldg)? If so, might we consider the occupation of her office as a demonstration of protest?
Folks in Fairbanks have already visited the offices of Sen. Murkowski, Stevens and Rep. Young, first requesting them to sign a statement that they would not support additional funding for the Iraq war and occupation. On a subsequent visit on Jan 19th they repeated their request, and followed it with reading the names of the US soldiers killed. When asked to leave at least two refused and were arrested. I believe there is a report about their actions in Fairbanks on the website of the Occupation Project

There is a single congressional office in the Federal Building on the 8th or 9th floor.
